Episode 1: Leaving the Dock Went Wrong — Our First Week Aboard SV Salty
One finger slip on the throttle, a tight marina, and a neighbor’s boat way too close — our first departure aboard SV Salty did not go to plan. In Episode 1 we leave Patterson, Ohio, stop at Niagara Falls, and drive to Solomons Island, Maryland, to move aboard. After first dinners, settling in, and goodbyes with family, we cast off for real — stressfully — then sail across the Chesapeake to Reedville, on to Deltaville, and down to Hampton Roads to wait for our weather window around Cape Hatteras.
